State Superfund Site Redevelopment
General Location: Minneapolis, MN
Dates: 2004 - 2007
Service Areas Incorporated: Environmental Due Diligence, Voluntary Investigation and Cleanup, Brownfields Redevelopment, and Industrial Hygiene.
Background Information: The property was originally a paint manufacturing facility. The former operations included underground storage tanks for a variety of products used in the paint manufacturing process. Leaks from the tanks were discovered in the 1980s after the facility was vacated. The responsible party worked cooperatively with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) State Superfund Program to investigate and clean up contaminants in the subsurface. Vieau Associates' client purchased the property in 2004 and we managed the environmental aspect of the redevelopment. Vieau Associates successfully got the site delisted from the Superfund program and enrolled the site into the MPCA Petroleum Brownfields Program and the MPCA Voluntary Investigation and Cleanup (VIC) program.
Tasks:
Provided Phase I/Phase II assessments incorporation prior investigation data; shallow groundwater was heavily impacted by paint solvents (ethyl benzene, toluene, xylenes)
