Former Glidden Paint Condo Development

Four-story former paint manufacturing facility/State Superfund site
Client: Developer


Achieve remediation, de-listing from Superfund list, and redevelop site for residential condominiums.


  • Provided Phase I/Phase II assessments incorporating prior investigation data
  • Shallow groundwater was heavily impacted by paint solvents (ethyl benzene, toluene, xylenes)
  • Prepared response action plan for regulatory approvals
  • Assumed O&M of an existing groundwater sparging/soil vapor extraction system, which was ultimately decommissioned
  • Provided structural engineering support to general contractor for complete building renovation, including conversion of full basement into underground parking, and installation of new elevator/pit
  • Designed soil vapor control system for the new building
  • Monitored excavations
  • Segregated and disposed of contaminated soil
  • Secured permits for dewatering discharges
  • Completed soil vapor intrusion assessment and installed permanent soil vapor monitoring ports
  • Conducted sub-slab and indoor air monitoring
  • Assisted in writing institutional and engineering controls and securing City and State approvals/permits for the sale of condominium units
  • Services also included asbestos and lead paint survey and abatement assistance during renovation
  • The building is now occupied
